Pathology

The department is well equipped with automated advanced equipments. It functions round the clock with results of international standards. Experienced and qualified technicians and experienced pathologists are its assets. The department mainly divided in to two: Clinical Laboratory & Transfusion Medicine

Clinical Laboratory

All blood and body fluid investigations are conducted at our clinical lab in three sections.

 

A) Hematology & Clinical Pathology

       This division deals with tests of blood cells. We have 3 fully automated celcounter machines which give detailed results within minutes; We also have modern ESR machine capable of giving results in less than 20 minutes. 

B) Microbiology

        All routine culture and sensitivity tests are conducted in this section. We have 2 full time microbiologists with post graduate degree. 2 automated culture machines (Bac Tec 9050 & Bact Alert-3D) are available with which we are able to despatch the preliminary reports in 6 hours. 

 

C) Biochemistry and Immunology

 We have 3 fully automated biochemical analysers. For blood  tumour marker study, we have Vidas & Archiect plus Chemi luminescence Abbot  i 1000SR. Serum electrophoresis is being done with Genios Interlab.
 

Department of Transfusion Medicine

1.        24 hour service, 365 days

2.       Time for blood donation – between 7.30 am and 3.30 pm, all working days

3.       Well trained and experienced technical staff

c.       Direct Antiglobulin Test (DAT/DCT)

d.      Indirect Antiglobulin Test (IAT/ICT)

e.      Cold Agglutinin Test and Titre

f.        Blood collection and component preparation

5.       Blood components – prepared using fully automated, closed, sterile extractor system   (T-ACE-II)

a.      Packed Red Cells (PRC)

b.      Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP)

c.       Platelet Concentrate

d.      Cryoprecipitate 

6.       Blood preparations are

a.      90 – 95% leucoreduced (WBC removed) – reduces chances of reactions and infections

b.      Individually screened for transfusion transmissible infections

                           i.      ELISA – for HIV 1 & 2, Hepatitis C Virus, Hepatitis B Virus

                          ii.      Malarial parasite Antigen detection kit

                          iii.      VDRL – sexually transmitted diseases

c.       Screened for unexpected antibodies using IAT

7.       Adequate and appropriate storage units for blood components

8.       Blood units are issued on request from other hospitals, as per availability.

9.       Regular internal and external quality control checks are conducted.

10.   Regular in-house and external training programmes for all staff
